Chris Pine Arrested for DUI in New Zealand
The ‘Star Trek’ actor apparently did not appear intoxicated upon leaving a Methven club, but was still over New Zealand’s legal limit.
Actor Chris Pine, best known for playing Captain James T. Kirk in the rebooted "Star Trek" franchise, was arrested last week for driving drunk in New Zealand.
The 33-year-old star was charged on March 1 with driving with a blood-alcohol level over New Zealand’s legal limit of .08 percent. Police said that Pine was stopped during a routine early-morning check outside the South Island town of Methven. The actor has been in the country to shoot his latest film, “Z for Zachariah,” which will be released sometime next year.
On the night before he was arrested, Pine was celebrating the end of the film's production at the Blue Pub in Methven. According to the bar’s manager, Casey Crawford, Pine was accompanied by girlfriend Iris Bjork Johannesdottir, drank only beer, and did not appear intoxicated when he left around 2:30 a.m.
"He looked like he just wanted to spend time with his partner," Crawford told the Christchurch newspaper The Press. "Chris was really good. They were a good crowd, the whole lot of them.”
Pine is set to make his first appearance in court on Monday. His agent and publicist were unavailable for comment..
